Phuket is one of the most beautiful places in the world — and one of the most dangerous for smartphones. Think about what you do here: swimming in the ocean, pool parties, snorkelling, kayaking, Songkran water festival, monsoon rainstorms that arrive with zero warning.

The #1 Mistake That Destroys Water-Damaged iPhones

Charging it while wet. This kills more iPhones than the initial water exposure. Here's why: when electricity flows through wet circuitry, it causes immediate electrolytic corrosion — essentially etching permanent damage into the copper traces and components on the logic board. A phone that might have been 90% recoverable becomes 10% recoverable in seconds.

• Using a hair dryer — heat warps internal components and drives moisture deeper
• Putting it in rice — a popular myth with zero scientific backing; wastes critical time

Sea Water vs Pool Water vs Rain — Why It Matters

Not all water damage is equal. Understanding the type of water helps you gauge urgency:

Sea Water (Highest Urgency)

Salt water is the most corrosive. As sea water evaporates, salt crystals form on the logic board and continue etching circuitry even after the visible water is gone. A phone dropped in the ocean and left overnight may be beyond repair even if it looked "dry" in the morning. If your iPhone went in the sea, treat this as a maximum-urgency emergency — don't wait, come straight to us.

Pool Water (High Urgency)

Pool water contains chlorine (a strong oxidiser) and various other chemicals. It's less immediately corrosive than sea water but still far more damaging than fresh water. Urgency: high — aim to be at a repair shop within 1–2 hours.

Rain / Fresh Water (Moderate Urgency)

Fresh water has much lower mineral and chemical content. A brief rain exposure on a newer IP-rated iPhone may cause no damage at all. But if the phone got significantly wet or you notice any symptoms (screen flickering, audio issues, charging problems), still bring it in promptly.

What "IP68 Waterproof" Actually Means

iPhone 12 through iPhone 15 models carry IP68 ratings — but this marketing language creates false confidence. Here's what IP68 actually means:

• Tested in a lab under controlled conditions: still, fresh water, up to 6 metres, for 30 minutes
• The rating is for a new phone — the water resistance seals degrade over time with normal use
• It does not cover: salt water, chlorinated pool water, high-pressure water (shower, waves), or water if the phone has any previous damage (including hairline cracks)
• Apple's warranty explicitly does not cover water damage on any iPhone, including IP68 models

If the device is successfully repaired, all your data comes back intact — because we're restoring the device to working order, not replacing storage. Photos, messages, WhatsApp chats, everything is preserved.

If the storage chip itself is damaged (rare), we can attempt chip-level extraction. Success depends on the extent of damage to the NAND chip.

For the future: Enable iCloud backup (Settings → [Your Name] → iCloud → iCloud Backup → Back Up Now). When your phone is connected to WiFi and charging, it backs up automatically. This is the single best insurance policy for your phone data.
